Terms of Use
In plain terms: LocalDNS is free, open-source developer software provided “as is.” Use it freely, don't misuse it or infringe others' rights, and understand there's no warranty. The formal terms follow.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the LocalDNS application for macOS, Windows and Linux, the localdns command-line tool (together, the “Software”), and this website at localdns.selfmade.technology (the “Site”). The Software and Site are provided by Selfmade Ninja Academy (“we,” “us”). By downloading, installing, or using the Software or Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.
1. Acceptance
By accessing the Site or installing or using the Software, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. You must be able to form a binding agreement to use the Software.
2. License & open source
LocalDNS is open-source software. Your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute the Software's source code are granted by the open-source license published with the source code in the project's repository at github.com/sibidharan/localdns. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and that license as it applies to the source code, the open-source license governs your rights to the source code.
The LocalDNS apps for Windows and Linux are distributed free of charge. The macOS app is distributed through the Apple App Store; any purchase price there supports continued development across all platforms.
3. App Store distribution and end-user license
If you obtain the macOS app through the Apple App Store, your use is additionally subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple Standard EULA”), available at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula, together with the App Store Terms of Service. Where the Apple Standard EULA applies, it governs that copy of the app; these Terms supplement it and do not diminish any rights it grants you. You acknowledge that Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support for the app.
4. Acceptable use
LocalDNS answers DNS queries on your own machine for zones you configure. You agree to use it only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. In particular, you agree not to:
- Use the Software to intercept, redirect, or spoof network traffic in a manner that violates any law or the rights of others, or on systems you are not authorized to configure.
- Use the Software to deceive users into connecting to a service they did not intend to reach for fraudulent or malicious purposes.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site or its hosting infrastructure.
- Misrepresent the origin of the Software or remove or alter its license or attribution notices when redistributing it.
You are responsible for how you configure and use the Software on your systems, including any rules you create and the network behavior that results.
5. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SOFTWARE AND SITE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that it will meet your requirements. You use the Software at your own risk.
6. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL SELFMADE NINJA ACADEMY OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE OR SITE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law.
7. Trademarks & third-party names
“LocalDNS” and its logo are marks of the project. Apple, macOS, and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc.; Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation; Linux is a trademark of Linus Torvalds; and other product names are the marks of their respective owners. Reference to them is for identification only and does not imply endorsement.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version on this page. Your continued use of the Software or Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
